Unfortunately, I have no memories of my great grandmother except during the viewing prior to her funeral. I was 9 at the time. If any family members remember, please leave a comment about your memories.
I will have to dig around for some pictures of her.
ReplyDeleteAll the children called her "Mama". Children, Grand-children, great-grandchildren...didn't matter, she was "Mama".
Like you, I was quite young but I remember when she was living "in the country" (Harris County, GA) with Aunt Nita and Aunt Vee. I remember when we would go to visit, which was quite often, Mama always reaching out to me and my sisters to come closer to her. Once we were close enough for her to put her arm around us and talk.....all the adult family members in the room would smile and say how sweet, etc etc etc. At the time, I could never could figure out why it made them so happy. LOL
Then they moved to Florida to the old homestead after it was moved next door to Uncle RC and Aunt Madeline. I don't remember much from there because by then, we were left outside to play in the HUGE yard a lot of the time so there was peace and quiet in the house.

Oops.......One thing I forgot to mention. My daughter, Amanda, is named after "Mama".
ReplyDeleteI remember my grandmother (Zelma Weadon) being overjoyed when I told her her great-granddaughter was named after her mother.
I remember her as Big Mama, can't remember how that came about, but always went to visit her with Granddaddy (Warren) and Granny Miller. I remember one trip to GA to visit with all the family there. I loved the country "way up there", it was the fall of the year and just beautiful. Aunt Zelma, Aunt Vera, Aunt Hazel, Aunt Vida, all had such fun when they were together.

ReplyDeleteThe house in the country WAS really beautiful. Aunt Vida and Uncle Buck lived just above Mama, Aunt Vee and Aunt Nita. And there were three lakes for fishing.
Yep, those Miller women did have a lot of fun when they got together.

ReplyDeleteI remember going to Columbus one time when Grandma was up there with Aunt Vera and Aunt Juanita. I remember a lake. I remember going to the funeral at New Hope.
